Our Interdependence on Independence Day & Everyday

In Celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence lets also remember how interdependent we are upon each other.   Our country’s independence from a foreign dictator could have never been accomplished without the unity of those fighting for that independence.    They were interdependent upon each other.

Thomas Paine famously wrote in “The American Crisis” pamphlet during the American Revolutionary War, “These are times that try men’s (and women’s) souls.”

Some say we are in a crucible in our nation.   If so, how will we as individuals, and how as a nation will we respond.

First, what is a crucible?  It’s a container where metals are melted, or subjected to very high temperatures.  In a human sense, some would call it a fiery trial, or the refiner’s fire where metal is tested.  A crucible, or fiery trial can be brief or prolonged.   It can produce something better, or something worse.  The result of the refiner’s fire, often depends on the metal being tested.

Simply put, a crucible is a place or situation that forces people to change or make difficult decisions; a place or situation where different elements interact to produce something new.

Scottish historian and award-winning author makes a very good point to consider, “The point needs to be made that all individuals ground their view of the world within some conception of moral authority.  Not only those who are (religious) in a traditional sense, but also those who claim to have no (religious) faith at all, base their views of the world in unprovable assumptions and ‘being’ and ‘knowledge’.”

Hunter goes on to say, “Within communities that hold orthodox views, moral authority arises from a common commitment to transcendence, by which I mean a dynamic reality that is independent of, prior to, and more powerful than [...]

Resilience Can Be Learned – Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Matters

Resilience – Are we ever in need of a HUGE dose of it about now.   The culture chaos all around us has so much to do with emotional intelligence (EQ), also known as Resilience.

Researcher Daniel Goleman, in his groundbreaking brain and behavioral research shows a shift in how we see IQ and life success.

What is EQ, Resilience anyway?   Up until 2012, in my studies to become a Certified Life Coach, I had never heard the term before.   Was it ever eye opening and life changing to learn how much of a road block the lack of EQ (Emotional Intelligence), or Resilience can be in one’s life.

Emotional Intelligence includes self-awareness and impulse control, persistence, zeal or enthusiasm and self-motivation, empathy and social deftness or skillfulness, ability without difficulty.   The really good news is these all can be acquired.

In his book, Emotional Intelligence – Why It Can Matter More Than IQ, Dr. Goleman points out that the qualities I just listed above mark people who excel in real life: “whose intimate relationships flourish, who are stars in the workplace.  These are the hallmarks of character and self-displine, of altruism or selflessness and compassion – basic capacities needed if our society is to thrive.”

Why is emotional intelligence, resilience so important for right now as well as success moving forward?   Well, to put it right out there, the personal costs of deficits in emotional intelligence or resilience can range from problems in marriage and parenting to poor physical health.   “New research shows that chronic anger and anxiety create as great a health risk as chain smoking.”  Lack of emotional intelligence, or resilience can sabotage the intellect and ruin careers.  “Perhaps the greatest toll is on children, for whom risks include [...]

Reset Button – Words Lift Up & Words Tear Down – Lead in LOVE

Come together, right now….we need to agree to disagree in some cases.  At the end of the day, we need to consider the children of the future.   Protecting them and their innocence.

We must lead in LOVE.

LifeVictory is thematic – The theme LEADS in LOVE, everything else is elementary and follows.

WORDS fitly spoken can heal…it is time to heal.

Join me in sharing words that heal.

Peace,

Deborah

Character….Creativity….Courage….Contentment

I’m all about words and the power of words in our lives to bring out the outcomes we desire.

Character….Creativity….Contentment….Courage are some pretty powerful words for our lives today.   We are surrounded by so many messages but staying focused on what we want to see in our lives is a critical step in attaining a higher standard we set for ourselves.   We are only responsible for our response to the world around us.   Each and every one of us has the power to change the course and direction of our lives.   It starts with our thoughts.

Thoughts about ourselves, our Creator and the relationships we have with the people around us, and the world in general.

The content of our character, the good qualities of which are esteemed and respected:  impression: mark of distinction are words we don’t often hear in our culture today.

The creativity of our Creator is infinite!  Just pause for a moment and look at His created universe!   The possibilities are endlessly infinite!  Breath deep……

Contentment, a resting or satisfaction of mind in the present condition; gratification; satisfaction that holds the mind in peace, restraining complaint; degree of happiness.  Hhhhhmmm, I like the sounds of that, don’t you!?

Do you see yourself having Courage?   Bravery is often associated with courage.  It’s the quality of mind that enables one to encounter danger and difficulties with firmness, or without fear or depression of spirits; valor; boldness and resolution.

We live in a day where more and more of these traits are necessary to overcome the hardships, trials and tribulations and teach others to do the same.    The example we set for those around us can go so far in helping them acquire these attributes.

I encourage you to pause and consider these four words [...]

Resilience…..another word for Emotional Intelligence (EQ)

Resilience is your ability to bounce back in the midst of adversity and overcome the hurdles of life.  It measures your aptitude for social and emotional interactions and skills that are critical for life success.

Emotional and relational intelligence (ERQ) is being aware of, recognize and understand our own emotions – taking ownership of our own emotions.  As well as those of others around us, and being able to constructively manage our own emotions and how they relate to the relationships around us.

Did you know that ERQ has been found to be more important in the scope of life success than someone’s IQ?

I don’t know about you but that gives me hope.   You are born with your IQ, but your ERQ can be improved upon and changed – a skill to build upon.   That’s cool!

Self-Awareness (Me) is the first key – Emotional Self-Awareness, Emotional Expression, Accurate Self-Assessment build towards Self-Confidence.

Self-Management (I) is second – Emotional Self Control, Anger Management and Self-Responsible – in other words taking responsibility.

Relational Awareness (Us) is third – Relational Awareness has to do with Empathy towards others.  Noticing that someone is in pain.  Being present.  Knowing what “not” to say.  Recognizing emotions in others.

When it comes to Empathy, the secret is listening, not talking.   Learning to be a good listener builds your empathy towards others.

Relational Management (We) is fourth – It encompasses 7 simple steps of ERQ empowerment:

#1 – Define the issue:  Listen & Seek Understanding (Seek First to Understand before being Understood)

#2 – Decide how important the issue is?

#3 – Do you need to apologize or ask for forgiveness? I was wrong.  I am sorry.  Please forgive me.  This isn’t always easy if we haven’t had it [...]

Thankfulness in the midst of hardship

How hard is that?

Hardship is part of life for sure. But do we let the hardship harden our hearts, make us cynical, sarcastic and angry?

OR, do we let it grow our appreciation for the lessons learned, count our blessings, grow in character and resilience?

A few years back I did some study of centenarians, 100 years old +, two things they had in common was an ability to take life’s ups and downs, the good, the bad and the ugly, in stride. And the faith to believe that hardships do pass and to find humor wherever possible. And, by all means counting their blessings.

I wanna be like that!

Resilience and Thankfulness play such and important role in our lives and making lemonade out of life’s lemons and yummy cherry pie out of the pits!

Happy Thanksgiving y’all!

Content – Contented – Contentment

Been thinking a lot about contentment lately. And, interrelated words, including contention, the opposite of contentment.

I implore a greater understanding and mindset of contentment.

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

BE Cheerful. In the midst of any circumstance, as much as is possible.

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

Gratitude and Satisfaction with where you are in the here and now, is the present.

“All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.”
Proverbs 15:15

Abundance flows out of a cheerful heart.

“A heart at peace gives LIFE to the body, but envy rots the bones.” Proverbs 14:30

So please, consider this, above all else, GUARD YOUR HEART. [...]

Perfect Character, Perfect Bliss

“These seven descriptions make up a perfect character, and the seven blessings appended when combined constitute perfect bliss.”

“The whole seven rise one above another like the steps of a ladder of light, and the blessings appropriate to each grow out of the virtues described.”

“At the close of the seven BEatitudes of character comes an eighth and double benediction bestowed on the persecuted condition as a result of holiness. The whole makeup a celestial octave of benediction.”
– C. H. Spurgeon

I love the richness and depth of Spurgeon’s writings!

Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount was one of Jesus’ first teachings to the masses. In Matthew 5…Blessed are the poor in spirit; for their’s is the kingdom of heaven. (The first step of the ladder is low, and the more readily reached. Those who know their spiritual poverty are the only ones who by faith can lay hold on the true riches of grace.)

Blessed are they that mourn: for they will be comforted. (To their sense of need is now added holy sorrow for sin; this leads them to Jesus, [...]

It’s Monday…how does that make you feel?

Monday morning brings excitement for some…a new week of adventure and opportunity!

Yet for others, a feeling of dread sweeps over you at the very thought…life has begun to overwhelm you. Leaving you feeling sad, depressed, anxious and afraid. I know, I’ve been there.

Take heart.

This present Monday morning in my quiet meditation time with Holy Spirit here where I went…

You, Lord, are my Shepherd;
I have everything it need.
You let me rest in green meadows;
You lead me beside peaceful streams.
You renew my strength.
You guide me along right paths,
Bringing honor to your name.

Even when I walk through the dark valley of death.
I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies.
You welcome me as your guest, anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
Surely goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life,
And I will live in the house of The Lord forever.

Peace be with YOU!
